Perhaps it is cheating to take a picture of something in the front yard, but this pumpkin has sort of, well, grown on us. Here, we see it after a night of rain and looking good. The story here is that the seed took root in the planter, started a vine heading toward the ground, then across the yard. In the meantime, the largest of the three pumpkins that it has produced happened to end up right on the walkway up to the front door. I suppose a picture of that would be in order:

Yes, the roots are actually up at the far end of the window box! It has become part of the yard enough that it might be a shame to see it go. Photos: Taken in front of the house in Northeast Portland on 7 September 2010.
