…Gone the Sun.

I was trying to get a picture of the red sun, and managed to do so just as it was setting. It looks just like a molten blob in the trees on the horizon. Goodnight sun!  Photo: Taken in Lynnwood on 22 August 2015.

Day Is Done….

It has been hazy and smoky the last few days around here due to the forest fires in Cascadia. The haze made the sun appear particularly reddish this evening.  Photo: Taken in Lynnwood on 22 August 2015.

Sunset in Seattle

There are a multitude of places in Cascadia where you can see a beautiful sunset and mountains, weather permitting. Here we can see the last bits of the sunset over the Olympic Mountains, from the North Beach neighborhood in North Seattle. We can agree that the view is typical — you always seem ot have […]

Columbia Center Aglow

There is much beauty in nature. But we can certainly combine modern structures with nature to create beauty, too. The Columbia Center is the tallest building in the state of Washington, and indeed in all of Cascadia. Plunging into the cloudy sky, it favorably reflects the sun on a spring day. Partly Cloudy in Cascade Locks

I guess it isn’t unusual in Cascadia to have one of those days where you are looking out at a sunny spot, yet you are standing in a light rain. No where is that more common than in the Columbia River Gorge. Just typical weather here over the Columbia River. Photo: Taken at Cascade Locks […]

Mount Hood in the Morning

It is still hazy on a Spring morning with the sun coming up. The city and the state come in layers: The mountain in the background. The hills of East Portland. A couple of buildings from the South Waterfront. And, finally, a bit of shrubbery next to the sidewalk on Terwilliger Blvd. Photo: Taken in […]

Sunset Over Puget Sound

It’s really hard to pass up the opportunity to take photos at sunset, especially if the evening is as beautiful as this. Somewhere between the bright sunshine and darkness is an amazing light show seen against the sky and the clouds. And indeed. Fifteen minutes later, it was dark. Full Moon in the Clouds

It was a dark and stormy night. Except that it wasn’t stormy at all. But at one in the morning, it was indeed cloudy, to the point where the full moon was just not all that visible. The moon does make quite an interesting pattern on the clouds and in the sky, though. (And…this may […]

End of a Day of Fishing

A boat is coming back into the Port of Edmonds Marina as the sun sets through the clouds. That’s quite a few fishing poles you have there! The Olympic Mountains can be seen poking their heads out through the clouds. Photo: Taken in Edmonds on 10 October 2014.

Fog Visibility

We had a really foggy week here a couple of weeks ago. Some mornings, the fog visibility was just about zero. On this morning, you can see the bush a few feet away, but not the rest of the soccer field that is out there under the trees. Oh, yes. You can see the shoes […]
