Looking to get one last track meet in before spring break, Meridian hosted the Trojan Twilight Friday evening and rolled through the competition, posting the highest boys and girls team scores.
The Trojan boys scored 273 points as a team, winning 10 of 17 events. The next closest team to them was Nooksack Valley with 108 points.
It was a bit of a closer race on the girls side, but Meridian pulled ahead with 191 points. Lynden Christian finished second with 176.
Meridian sophomore Jase Klinkhammer had himself a day, winning both the 100- and 200-meter runs with times of 11.47 seconds and 23.71. His teammate Gary Rempp won the 800- and 1600-meter runs with times of 2:18.62 and 5:06.26. Rempp also won the 3200-meter run in 11:27.37.
Meridian senior Kayla Aalpoel has continued to build off the strong fall she had during cross country season where she placed second at state. Aalpoel placed first in all three long-distance races of 800, 1600 and 3200 meters with times of 2:26.26, 5:20.81 and 11:38.66.
Sophomore Erica Stotts made it a clean sweep for Meridian in the 100-meter run, winning the girls race in 13.16, a personal record.
Lynden Christian’s Ava Decker won the high jump clearing 4-08 and Nooksack Valley’s Tehya Moore placed first in the long jump with a leap of 15-10.50. Moore also won the triple jump with a jump of 34-04.
Mount Baker’s Davin Beason and Meridian’s Josh Elmer put up a fight in the javelin, but Beason narrowly beat out Elmer with a throw of 133-09 compared to Elmer’s 133-08.

With schools now on spring break, teams will also be on break. The next meet on the schedule for any school in the county is Birger Solberg Invite April 9 at Civic Stadium.
