WWU evacuates buildings due to threat

Viking Union and Viking Commons both evacuated

Two buildings on Western Washington University’s campus were evacuated due to a firearm threat via email.

According to a Western Alert, an email was received Tuesday morning from an unknown person specifically threatening the Viking Union dining hall.

The email was sent to “general email in-boxes of at least two WWU departments.” One ended up in the spam folder. University police are encouraging students and faculty to check their emails and to forward anything threatening to university.police@wwu.edu.

The VU will remain closed on Feb. 23 while university police and local law enforcement work together to investigate the email.

During the closure, students will be served at Western’s two other dining halls.
