Ferndale PD investigating shooting death

Police still searching for suspect

Ferndale Police are investigating a shooting death that took place over the weekend. They were called to the American Legion building, in the 5500 block of Second Avenue, after shots were fired around 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

When responders got to the scene, bystanders were providing first aid to Jose Hernandez, 28, of Bellingham. He was transported to the hospital where he ultimately died.

Riley Sweeney, Communications Officer for Ferndale Police, said witnesses described an altercation between Hernandez and an unknown male before several gunshots were heard. He added that a small white passenger car fled the scene and was last seen heading northbound on Interstate 5.

Sweeney said Hernandez’s cause of death will be released pending an autopsy report.

Police are asking for anyone with more information to contact Ferndale Police at 360-384-3390.
