Man stabbed in fight on State Street Monday

Base Camp staff helped care for victim; medical status unknown

A 35-year-old man was stabbed in a fight in the 1500 block of North State Street Monday night, Bellingham Police reported.

At 7:27 p.m. on June 18, officers arrived at the scene to find a man bleeding with a stab wound to the neck.

In a June 19 press release, Lighthouse Mission Ministries wrote that the man stabbed was a former guest of Base Camp, and staff administered aid to him Monday night when he sought help after the incident.

President and CEO of Lighthouse Mission Ministries Hans Erchinger-Davis said the man arrived with “at least four stab wounds in his neck.”

Staff administered basic care, helped to keep the man stable and called the authorities. He was then transported to the hospital.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy said the man required “additional treatment” but police are unaware of his current medical status.

“There were several people around and interviewed by officers and detectives, and the case is still under investigation,” she said in an email.
