Bellingham’s waterfront is a real fright these days, and we’re not talking about all the exposed rebar at Harcourt’s slow-to-develop condominium building next to the Acid Ball, or the hulking heaps of metal trash at the Shipping Terminal.
The long mural that runs alongside the condominium project has been transformed in recent weeks into a montage of demons, ghosts, zombies and wizards for the Halloween season. Matt French, the artist behind the mural, invited other artists to paint “Halloween monsters” on blank spaces along the mural in what French called a “Monster Mash-up.”
Elinor Hall, 16, was adding her not-so-scary contribution to the mural on Sept. 15.
“Mine is, well, it’s kind of like fall-ish,” Hall said. “Like Hobbit, wizard-ish.”
Hall said she appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the group effort.
“I feel like, after COVID, it’s nice to have community-centered stuff,” she said. “I was missing that, and then I went to (Subdued) Stringband (Jamboree) at the end of the summer and I felt like, ‘Oh, OK, this is what Bellingham is about.’”
