A man who allegedly robbed a bank on North State Street on Saturday was arrested by Bellingham Police just 44 minutes later, according to a BPD Facebook post.
Isaiah Ezekiel Eraut, 50, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and booked into Whatcom County Jail, according to the bookings website.
At 10:10 a.m., Eraut walked into Key Bank and gave the teller a note, police said. Eraut stated he had a loaded gun and would shoot if not given money, which the teller handed over.
After getting a description of the suspect, officers began searching for him. At 10:54 a.m., officers located Eraut walking along Illinois and Vallette streets near Haggen and took him into custody, police said.
Though a gun was not found during the search, Eraut had all but $100 from the robbery.
Prior to the robbery, officers responded to a call from employees at Whatcom County Jail, where a man said he “needed to speak to an officer before robbing a bank.” The officers were on their way to the jail just before 10 a.m. when the man left, allegedly walking straight to the bank to rob it.
