A frost advisory has been issued by The National Weather Service in Seattle starting tonight for western Whatcom and Skagit counties.
The advisory runs from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday when temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 32 degrees.
The advisory follows a winter storm that continues to drop snow in the Cascade mountains and passes.
The weather service warns frost can kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered and the greatest chances of frost will occur in areas away from water sources.
As temperatures cool off, additional frosts and possible hard freezes are possible each night through Sunday morning, Oct. 29, the advisory stated.
Temperatures in Bellingham Thursday through Saturday are projected to be in the low 50s for highs and between 30 and 33 for the lows.
The NWS had issued an urgent winter weather message Monday morning for the Cascade mountains and passes in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish and King counties in advance of the storm.
The Washington State Department of Transportation also announced Monday that the final 2.7-mile stretch of state Route 542 on Mount Baker Highway, known as the road to Artist Point, closed for the season and the gates on milepost 54 also closed due to the forecasted snow.
People who are planning to travel across the Cascade passes should stay tuned to the forecast, pay attention to pass conditions, and fill up their gas tanks before hitting the road, said Samantha Borth, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Seattle.
People should also plan to carry a winter survival kit that includes tire chains, jumper cables, flashlights, cell phone chargers, water and snacks.
