Update: Investigation continues around fatal fire at Concrete residence

Victims have been recovered from scene

The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating a fatal fire that started the morning of Friday, Aug. 9, and is asking for the public’s help.

Skagit County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residential fire around 10:24 a.m. at the 15000 block of State Route 530 in Concrete, according to a news release from the MVPD. A two-story residence was destroyed in the fire, and surrounded buildings and vehicles sustained extensive damage.

An undisclosed number of victims have been recovered from the wreckage and turned over to the Skagit County Medical Examiner. Once recovery efforts are complete, the victims will be identified and the families notified by the Skagit County Coroner’s Office.

MVPD is conducting an investigation of the fire, according to the release, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Skagit County Fire Marshal, the Snohomish County Fire Marshal and the Sedro-Woolley Fire Department.

During the initial investigation, it was found the owner of the residence was a non-law enforcement, contract employee of Skagit County.

MVPD requests anyone with information about what happened Friday morning to call the 24-hour dispatch information number at 360-428-3211, or call MVPD during business hours at 360-336-6271.

Investigators are also seeking public assistance in locating a blue 1994 Chevrolet pick-up with Washington plates, registration C67636L. The truck is unaccounted for at the scene of the fatal fire. Call the tip line at 360-661-2319 with information on the vehicle.
