JESSE’S PICKS

Bilongo
6–10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, Barkley Village Green, 2215 Rimland Drive

Bilongo are a fantastic local Latin jazz ensemble, featuring a bunch of our best jazz players, equally enjoyable if you’re dancing or just listening. They’re going to wrap up the Tuesday Tunes series with their show at the Barkley Village Green on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Tommy Castro
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

Bluesman Tommy Castro is a true road warrior, with thousands of gigs under his belt to go with 16 albums over the course of a 30-year career. He and his band The Painkillers will be at the Walton Theatre in the Mount Baker Theater on Thursday, Aug. 29, not to be missed if you’re into blues with a touch of rock and soul.

Howard Levy
7:30–10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, Rockfish Grill, 320 Commercial Ave., Anacortes

Like a lot of people, I first encountered Howard Levy when he was playing keyboards and harmonica with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones back in the 1990s. Since then he’s brought his virtuoso harmonica skills to studio recordings for a bunch of famous pop acts and dipped into the classical world while remaining firmly based in the jazz scene. He brings his own eclectic quartet to the Rockfish Grill on Friday, Aug. 30.

Salt Pine
8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.

Local alt-country stalwarts Salt Pine have a debut EP coming out. They’ll celebrate its release with a show on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Shakedown that also features North Country Highway and Mercy Mercy for a solid night of honky tonkin’ and crying in your beer.
