Girls basketball forecast: Mount Vernon clashes with Anacortes

Both teams are looking to remain undefeated early in the season

By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Mount Vernon at Anacortes

When: 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13

Mount Vernon record: 4-0

Anacortes record: 2-0

Final prediction: Anacortes 55-45

Mount Vernon and Anacortes are looking to keep their undefeated seasons alive and flip their outlook after disappointing records last year. Mount Vernon is one of the youngest rosters in the Northwest Conference, led by a handful of freshmen responsible for 43 of 66 points scored against Cedarcrest. The Bulldogs are also averaging 51 points per game.

Anacortes is one of the most experienced rosters in the conference. Yet, the Seahawks only return one all-conference selection from last season. The Seahawks are averaging 57 points per game and allowing 25 points per game.

Mount Vernon player to watch: Guard Jaida Duodu, freshman

Duodu is one of four stellar freshmen on the Bulldogs roster. A 5-foot-6 guard, Duodu is clever and skillful, proving her skills with a 20-point game against Cedarcrest earlier this season. She will play a big role against an older, more experienced roster.

Anacortes player to watch: Forward Mikiah Dunham, senior

The 5-foot-10 forward is one of six Seahawk seniors who leads an experienced roster. Last season, Dunham averaged about 12 points and eight rebounds. This season, Dunham has picked about a handful of steals and blocks, including a couple against Sequim in their recent matchup.
