Bellingham boys basketball scorched the net with 12 3-pointers and the Bayhawks cruised past Blaine in an 83-41 win Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Blaine High.
Joe Harward led the Bayhawks with a game-high 17 points, nine rebounds and an assist. Kineade Vanhouten followed up with 13 points, 12 rebounds and an assist. The Bayhawks tallied 35 rebounds and 10 steals as a team.
With Harward and Vanhouten scoring, Myllo Wright dished out two early assists and the Bayhawks raced out to an early 10-2 lead. However, the Borderites climbed back to cut the deficit to 13-11 halfway through the quarter, spearheaded by Blaine’s Jacob Dohner scoring six points in the quarter.

Harward finished the first quarter with five consecutive points. He scored the first four points of the second quarter until Blaine’s Dulio Kanagie made a layup to break the streak. Halfway through the second quarter, Bellingham extended its lead to 39-17 with 3-pointers from Harrison Wienkers and Gabriel Van Hofwegen.
The Bayhawks held a 48-28 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bayhawks went on a 25-10 run to take a 73-38 lead. Calvin Van Hofwegen led with six points, Wienkers had five points, and Haward and Gabriel Van Hofwegen had four each.
The Bayhawks played their reserves in the fourth quarter and finished the game with the running clock active. The Bayhawks (2-0) host Mount Baker at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. Blaine (2-2) will travel to Sehome at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
