The Fairhaven Library is celebrating its 120th anniversary of serving local readers with displays of historic photos and memories.
The library, which was dedicated Dec. 20, 1904, was financed by a grant of $12,500 from Andrew Carnegie and built on land donated by Charles X. Larrabee.
Located at 1117 12th St., the library was described by The Reveille newspaper at the time as a “magnificent monument to culture and education.” Over the decades, the library has been renovated many times.
To honor the 120th anniversary, the Bellingham Central Library and Fairhaven Library are each displaying historic photos and memories of the library. The display is curated by Whatcom Museum Photo Archives research technician Jeff Jewell.
The Fairhaven Library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays, and 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
