CDN Game of the Week: Lynden vs. Grandview at Yakima Valley SunDome
When: 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27
Grandview record: 6-1
Lynden record: 5-0
Final prediction: Lynden 70-55
Grandview, with nearly its entire roster returning, will seek to avenge last season’s 2A state championship loss (85-54) to Lynden. After losing their first game of the season, the Greyhounds have won five straight by a margin of 20 points. Grandview has seven seniors on the roster and will bring a more experienced squad than the Lions.
Lynden, the three-time defending state champion, has won its games by a margin of over 14 points and has allowed a Northwest Conference-low 47.8 points per game. The Lions lost a couple key contributors from last season but still provide a lot of talent and height.
Grandview player to watch: Senior guard Francisco Medina
Medina was Grandview’s leading scorer in the state championship game last season, finishing with 17 points in 30 minutes played. The 5-foot-7 point guard recently reached 1,000 career points.
Lynden player to watch: Senior forward Brant Heppner
The 6-foot-6 senior is looking to add another state ring to his impressive prep career. In last year’s state title game, he dropped 28 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes played. This season, Heppner is third in Whatcom County in assists (5.7) and points (20.7).
CDN/WECU Game of the Week will return for the Meridian at Nooksack girls basketball Jan. 13 game.
