One-loss Lyncs and Tigers meet for Northwest Conference showdown

CDN Game of the Week: Burlington-Edison at Lynden Christian

When: 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3

Burlington-Edison record: 8-1

Lynden Christian record: 9-1

Final prediction: Lynden Christian 75-65

Lynden Christian is the highest-scoring team in the Northwest Conference this season, averaging nearly 77 points per game. On the other hand, the Lyncs have allowed about 52 points per game, creating a 245-point total margin in their games. The Lyncs’ lone loss was a 92-90 defeat by Class 4A Arlington on Dec. 23.

Burlington-Edison has also had a formidable season, despite a 72-60 loss to Class 1A Meridian on Dec. 12. The Tigers have the second-highest point differential in the conference with nearly a 14-point margin per game. Burlington-Edison is scoring about 68 points per game and allowing 54.

Burlington-Edison player to watch: Junior forward Logan Heigert

Heigert is a 6-foot-6 junior small forward who has averaged 27 points and 13 rebounds in his last two games. He was also a second-team all-NWC player last season.

Lynden Christian player to watch: Senior guard Gannon Dykstra

Dykstra is the leading scorer in Whatcom County as of Saturday, Dec. 28, averaging nearly 23 points per game. The 6-foot-1 senior guard is also averaging over eight rebounds, six assists and two steals per game.
