Stemma Brewing has announced plans to purchase Twin Sisters Brewing Company via social media. Owner/head brewer Jason Harper said Tuesday, Dec. 31, he plans to convert the property into a second location, whereas Stemma’s current location at 2039 Moore St. will remain open.
“We’re hoping to be getting in there early January and starting to rebrand and refresh it,” said Harper, who operates Stemma with his wife and family. “We hope to have some part of this space open in the next 30 to 60 days [and] then reopen the rest of it early summer.”
Twin Sisters Brewing is located at 500 Carolina St. and has been on the market since at least August 2023. It was first listed for $3.7 million; however, Cascadia Daily News reported a price drop to $3.3 million in September 2024. That price includes the .8-acre property plus restaurant and brewery equipment, inventory and brand equity according to a BizBuySell listing.
The Harpers considered purchasing Twin Sisters when it initially came up for sale, though Harper said it “just wasn’t the right timing for us.” When a real estate agent re-approached them in August 2024, the family moved forward with the purchase. The Harpers submitted a license application to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board on Dec. 10.
The former Twin Sisters location will be remodeled to suit Stemma’s clean, bright aesthetic (and yes, Twin Sisters’ divisive “beer garden” sign will be removed). While Harper and his team will likely re-brew some of Twin Sisters’ recipes as a homage, those beers would be released under new branding.
Harper said the additional space and equipment “basically triples” Stemma’s brewing capacity. Stemma will soon begin hiring staff for the new location, and a Manager of Taproom Operations job is already posted online.
