Guide to Bellingham-area food trucks

More than 30 options available — from burgers to Asian fusion meals

By Cocoa Laney Lifestyle Editor

When you feel like a quick bite, consider one of the (many) food trucks roaming the streets of Bellingham and Whatcom County. Here is a list of more than 30 mobile meals.

Food truck schedules change often, so make sure to call before visiting up in person. Did we miss one? Email cocoalaney@cascadiadaily.com and we’ll add it to the list.

Tacos, burritos and more

Super Mario’s has been serving Salvadorian food (including the iconic Wonder Burrito) to hungry diners since 2003. You can find their truck Monday–Saturday at 1422 N. Forest St., or visit their brick-and-mortar at 3008 Northwest Ave.

For Mexican food, there’s A Que Tacos at 1315 W Connecticut St., Tacos Tepozteco at Stemma Brewing (2039 Moore St.), Chispita de Sabor at Beach Cat Brewing Thursday–Saturday (7876 Birch Bay Drive) and Menace Brewing (2529 Meridian St.) on Sunday, and El Tapatio, which you’ll find parked around both Bellingham (4100 Strider Loop) and Ferndale (2504 Grandview Road).

Other favorites include Tacos La Guelaguetza with locations at Iowa and Meridian Streets, and Tacos el Tule (at 3548 Meridian St. and 200 Prospect St.), which is notable for its “Grilled Stuffed Crunchers” filled with beans, meat and cheese. El Toro Loco (200 S 36th St.) is open daily and known for its birria. Ah! Chihuahua Taco Truck is parked daily at Kulshan K2 (1538 Kentucky St.), but they also have a sit-down location on Railroad Avenue downtown.

Hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches

If it’s hot dogs you’re craving, Street Dogz will likely do the trick (check their Facebook for locations and contact info). As far as burgers go, Doug’s Burgers is one of Bellingham’s newest offerings. You can find them on the corner of Holly and State streets Friday–Saturday, plus at various breweries throughout the week. Luchadora Burgers serves creative Mexican fusion at Wander Brewing (1807 Dean Ave.), and El Pollo Feo can be found at Kulshan K2 (1538 Kentucky St.) Wednesday–Sunday.

In Ferndale, try WTF Where’s the Food? for burgers, fries and other all-American eats at Fringe Brewing (5640 3rd Ave.). The Mobile Mouth Hole is also another Fringe standby (check Instagram @themobilemouthhole for schedules).

Big Bites! Sandwiches and Stuff has a brick-and-mortar now, but you can still find their signature Philly cheesesteaks and wings at Menace (2529 Meridian St.) on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Speaking of cheesesteaks, Sammies does a pretty incredible plant-based version. Their winter hours tend to be sporadic, but you can keep updated by visiting their Instagram @sammiesvegan. Finally, if it’s gourmet grilled cheese you’re after, you can’t go wrong with Burnt Side Down at Stemma (2039 Moore St.) Wednesday–Sunday.

Other international eats

In terms of Italian food, Stella Sopra (at Menace Monday–Tuesday; 2529 Meridian St.) is your best bet for pasta, whereas Cicchitti’s East Coast Pizza is a go-to for pizza (but is closed for the winter — check Instagram @cicchittis for updates).

For Filipino food, Bry’s Filipino Cuisine is a farmers market mainstay, and Lumpia Luv can be found between Menace (2529 Meridian St.) and Beach Cat Brewing (7876 Birch Bay Drive; check their website for schedules). That’s What I Like! Island Grill also recently soft-launched its new food truck.

Dumpling Girls (found at 2620 Northwest Ave.) has some of Bellingham’s best Asian fusion, so much so that CDN columnist Mark Saleeb dubbed them a “hell of a truck” in his review last year. Bahn & Mi Bubble Tea (2604 Meridian St.) was also reviewed by Saleeb; it has excellent Vietnamese food, plus a borderline-overwhelming range of bubble tea flavors.

Located at Transition Outpost Friday–Sunday, the Asian fusion bowls at Outpost Eats (5090 Samish Way) are a godsend for hungry mountain bikers. This truck can also be found at Kulshan K1 (2238 James St.) on Wednesday and Wander on Thursday.

Greektown, located at Kulshan K1 (2238 James St.), sets the bar high for Mediterranean food. Lastly, Galley2Go specializes in England’s great culinary contribution — fish and chips — and you can check their current schedule on Instagram @g2gfish.

Miscellaneous bites

IncediBowl specializes in fast food with a healthy twist, and you’ll find them at Stones Throw (1009 Larrabee Ave.) most days of the week.

Everything at New Public is vegan, gluten-free and organic, which in theory sounds healthy— but the menu skews closer to comfort food, just without the animal products. They’re parked at Wander Brewing (1807 Dean Ave.) on Friday and Evil Bikes (700 Harris Ave.) on Saturday, plus Kulshan Trackside (298 W. Laurel) in the summer months.

Bellingham might be far from the South, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have options for barbecue. Hungry diners can choose between Back East BBQ (check website for details), JT’s Smokin’ Barbecue (usually at 312 3rd St. in Lynden but closed for winter), and Big Stick Barbecue (at Stemma Wednesday–Sunday; 2039 Moore St.).

Finally, Scream is a new truck that we’re keeping our eye on. They serve New Zealand-style fruit ice cream, and we’re excited to see them back at Structures Brewing (601 W Holly St.) once winter (finally) comes to an end.
