2024 Youth Peace Poetry Contest now accepting submissions

Whatcom County youth are invited to enter any form of short creative writin

Calling all young poets: The Whatcom County Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) is now accepting entries for its annual Peace Poetry Contest.

From Feb. 1 to June 14, Whatcom County youth 18 and under are invited to submit poetry, lyrics, prose, short stories or any form of short creative writing. All entries should be related to the theme of peace, and winners will be featured at two events: a Village Books poetry reading, and WDRC’s own Peace Builders Awards event on Oct. 25.

Need help getting started? WDRC suggests “hope, courage, collaboration, connection, empathy, love, friendship [and] social justice” as possible themes. Most importantly, though, youth are encouraged to use their unique voice and make the contest their own.

Submissions can be entered via WDRC’s website (whatcomdrc.org), by email to youth@whatcomdrc.org or submitted in hard copy to 206 Prospect St. in Bellingham.
