6-month closure planned for Truck Road

Route along Nooksack River needs flood repairs

By Ralph Schwartz Staff Reporter

Truck Road east of Deming will need to close for about six months, to repair damage from major floods on the Nooksack River.

Whatcom County officials expect to establish a detour for Truck Road travelers from June to the end of November, while crews complete a second phase of repairs to damage caused by the 2020 Super Bowl flood and the November 2021 floods.

The work will include road realignment and environmental protections. The project is eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency funding.

Before closing the road, the county council will hold a public hearing, tentatively scheduled for March 19.
