Eight Whatcom County basketball teams are off to state this week, Feb. 28 to March 2, in the Class 1B, 1A and 2A tournaments.
Only two will face elimination immediately in first-round games (Lummi Nation girls and Meridian boys), while six are heading straight to quarterfinal contests — the first stage that introduces double elimination.
Here’s a breakdown of the matchups we know already.
1B/2B state tournaments: Spokane Arena
Wednesday, Feb. 28
- 1B girls first round (loser out): No. 11 Lummi Nation (18-8) vs. No. 6 Oakesdale (17-4), 3:45 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 29
- 1B boys quarterfinal: No. 1 Lummi Nation (22-1) vs. No. 15 Summit Classic Christian (19-7)/No. 7 Mossyrock (16-7), 10:30 a.m.
1A/2A state tournaments: Yakima Valley SunDome
Wednesday, Feb. 28
- 1A boys first round (loser out): No. 10 Meridian (13-11) vs. No. 7 Seton Catholic (17-6), 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, Feb. 29
- 1A boys quarterfinal: No. 2 Lynden Christian (22-2) vs. No. 9 King’s (16-8)/No. 8 Tenino (16-7), 2 p.m.
- 2A girls quarterfinal: No. 2 Lynden (24-1) vs. No. 9 Ridgefield (21-3)/No. 8 Columbia River (18-7), 2 p.m.
- 2A boys quarterfinal: No. 1 Lynden (21-4) vs. No. 10 Sammamish (18-8)/No. 7 Rogers of Spokane (16-6), 5:30 p.m.
- 1A girls quarterfinal: No. 1 Nooksack Valley (23-1) vs. No. 10 Seattle Academy (15-9)/No. 7 Bellevue Christian (22-2), 5:30 p.m.
- 1A girls quarterfinal: No. 3 Lynden Christian (18-7) vs. No. 13 Eatonville (16-5)/No. 4 King’s (16-10), 7:15 p.m.
