Jesse Stanton's weekly picks and other live shows in Whatcom and Skagit counties

JESSE’S PICKS

Red Fang
8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St.

Red Fang are a hard rock band out of Portland known for their mix of gnarly riffs with a slight dash of humor, especially in their music videos. They’ve made Bellingham a regular stop over their almost 20 years of touring. I’m a little surprised tickets were (as of my deadline) still available for their show at the Wild Buffalo on Tuesday, July 9. All you headbangers might want to snap those up.

Bellingham Festival of Music
4 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, Boundary Bay Brewery, 1107 Railroad Ave.

As I mentioned in my column a few weeks ago, the Bellingham Festival of Music has made an effort to incorporate some free performances in hopes of bringing their performers to the people. On Wednesday, July 10, you can head to the Boundary Bay beer garden for a free brass quintet performance featuring some of the top musicians from the festival orchestra.

The Enthusiasts
July 12–13, locations vary

The cheerful, melodic folk-rock of Skagit County’s The Enthusiasts is pretty much tailor-made for festive summer gatherings. On Friday, July 12, they’ve got a free show as part of Burlington’s summer concert series at the Visitor Center Amphitheater. Then on Saturday, July 13, they’re playing the Guemes Island General Store.

Daikaiju
9 p.m. Sunday, July 14, The Underground, 211 E. Chestnut St.

Daikaiju are a mysterious band of mask-wearing weirdos who play sci-fi-inspired instrumental surf rock at ridiculous tempos and energy levels. They’re notorious for all sorts of unpredictable hijinks, both on and off the stage. They tour relentlessly and are making their way back to Bellingham for a show at the Underground on Sunday, July 14.
