State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, closed in both directions near Easy Pass Trailhead at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21 due to wildfire danger.
The closure, located between Granite Creek (milepost 148) and the Easy Pass trailhead (milepost 157), was announced in a Washington State Department of Transportation email Sunday and is about 40 miles west of Winthrop.
The increased fire activity is caused by the Easy Fire, which has been burning in the Methow Valley since Wednesday, July 17.
The closure is in place until further notice, and travelers are advised to use U.S. Route 2 or Interstate 90 for cross-state travel while this closure is in place, the email stated.
“Travelers are reminded that road closures due to wildfire happen quickly and frequently and they should not attempt to go around ‘road closed’ signs,” according to the email.
