What’s the Deal With: The giant KFC chicken bucket?

Bellingham radio station KAFE 104.1 now proudly displays 8-foot-tall bucket

By Charlotte Alden General Assignment/Enterprise Reporter

When Micah Moeller put his 8-foot-tall KFC bucket up for sale, KAFE 104.1 hosts Dave Walker, Allan Fee and Patrice Valentine “went for it” and bought the bucket.

Right now, the bucket sits in the field outside the Cascade Radio Group building on Yew Street Road. The hosts want to keep it out there as a “Festive Friday” attraction, referring to their Friday morning shows with a live audience. They’re also discussing moving it to the front of the property to make it a “roadside attraction.” So far, people have already started coming to take pictures with it.

While Moeller, who bought the bucket at an auction a few years ago, put the bucket up for sale at a steep price of $1,000, Fee said they paid zero dollars. “Terms of the deal are undisclosed,” he said.

“We want to do something charitable ultimately with it, but right now we’re trying to have some fun with it,” Fee said. They hope to add to the collection and gather up other big fast food signs — maybe some golden arches or a Taco Time cactus.

“We do want to put out the word that if anyone else has a fast food sign, we’re ready to negotiate,” Walker said.
