Whatcom County health department lifts swimming advisory at Taylor Dock

Swimmers still advised to stay away from outfall near Bennett Avenue

By Charlotte Alden General Assignment/Enterprise Reporter

Whatcom County Health and Community Services has lifted a swimming advisory at the southern end of Boulevard Park at Taylor Dock.

The advisory has been in place since May 31 after water samples showed high levels of fecal bacteria at the dock and along the shoreline. People can now safely swim near the dock again and at the beach as new samples show lower levels of fecal bacteria.

However, the health department is still advising people to avoid the outfall near Bennett Avenue, where fecal bacteria levels remain above the safe limit.

Only one no-contact advisory remains in place for Whatcom County beaches, at Little Squalicum Beach.
