Ferndale launched four home runs but Lynden’s eight-run first inning propelled the Lions to a 10-7 win over the Golden Eagles on Thursday, March 28 at Lynden High School.
Sophomore Campbell DeJong had a hand in six of Lynden’s scores, finishing 2-for-3 batting with three RBI and three runs scored. Junior Melanie Anderson and seniors Childrey DeJong and Trinity Andrew each also had two hits for the Lions, while Anderson also had two RBI.
Ferndale junior Kaelin Blakley had two of the Golden Eagles’ homers, increasing her season total to eight, and she finished 3 for 4 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored. Senior Mallory Butenschoen (2 for 4, RBI) and junior Cena Lajuan (1 for 4, two RBI) accounted for the other two Ferndale home runs.
Andrew pitched all seven innings for Lynden, picking up the win and allowing eight hits, seven earned runs and four walks while retiring 12 batters.
Lynden (8-0, 4-0 Northwest Conference) continued its season-opening hot streak, as the Lions have a firm hold on the league standings. With spring break upcoming, the Lions’ next game will be a road contest at Sedro-Woolley (5-1, 3-0 NWC) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.
Ferndale (3-3, 1-3 NWC) lost its third straight game, and the Golden Eagles will have one more game to get right before the break when they travel to Lake Stevens (6-1) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 30.
