Get ready for clear skies and sun in Bellingham this Mother’s Day weekend. Temperatures are expected to hit the mid-70s, marking the warmest weather this year.
Temperatures start to rise on Thursday, May 9, with a high near 70, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will hover around 75 on Friday and Saturday, before dipping to 70 on Mother’s Day.
The warm weather offers Bellingham plenty of reasons to get outside, from hiking and strolls throughout town to a block party. Remember to wear sunscreen.
For those who may want to dip their feet into the water at Lake Samish, you have until Monday, May 13 to do so, then the park will close through summer 2025 for a scheduled bridge replacement project. The pedestrian bridge is currently closed, but the fishing dock and lakeside trail are accessible by following the service road and accessing the fishing bridge from the west.
Bellingham residents may also frequent any number of the beaches, public parks, Larrabee State Park or Birch Bay State Park throughout the weekend.
For those who want to stay in town, the annual Spring Wine Walk in downtown Bellingham is Friday, May 10. The Fairhaven Art Walk is on Saturday, May 11.
Celebrate Mother’s Day inside and outside with these ideas, or take a day trip outside of Bellingham.
Kulshan Trackside opened last Friday for the start of its summer season, and is open again from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Expect to see plenty of food trucks and vendors inside the Portal Container Village as well. However, the grassy area around Trackside is closed to the public as the Port of Bellingham replaces the lawn after it was contaminated by lead paint chips from the Digester Tanks.
Beer enthusiasts can also join the Sunnyland Garden Party and visit the seven breweries within the Sunnyland neighborhood. For those who fill up the punch card at each brewery, they’ll be entered into a raffle.
You could also head down to the first-ever Western Washington University block party from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the track field next to the rec center. There will be a beer and wine garden, food trucks, live music and more.
