Sehome, Meridian sweep district cross country championships

Next up are state meets Saturday, Nov. 9 in Pasco

Sehome and Meridian boys and girls cross country teams each swept their district meets Saturday, Nov. 2 at Lakewood High School and the Deming Logging Show Grounds, respectively.

In the 1A District 1 meet, the top team and next seven individual placers qualified for state. In 2A District 1, the top two teams and next 14 individual placers earned spots at the 2A state meet. The top four teams and 28 finishers in the 3A District 1 meet qualified for state.

1A Girls

Meridian girls won with 20 points and placed seven of the top 10 runners. Logan Ignacio won in 19 minutes, 56.61 seconds; Adelle Ashmore finished second in 20:24.16; Ava Hansen was fourth in 21:33.54; Maddy Swanson placed fifth in 21:34.11; Aunaleisa Ross came in seventh in 21:39.82, Allie Gordley finished eighth 21:40.86 and Cadence Scellick was 10th in 22:17.14.

Lynden Christian’s Laila Mellema finished third in 21:30.93, Olivia Lenssen was ninth in 22:11.53 and Allison Dalrymple placed 12th in 23:15.84.

Nooksack Valley’s Zoe Furtado finished sixth in 21:36.31. Mount Baker’s Hazel Grout was 11th in 22:25.14, Karalyn Cook came in 13th in 23:49.59 and Megan Little placed 14th in 24:34.12.

1A Boys

Meridian boys won with 24 points and had six of the top 10 runners. Reuben Telverde finished second in 16:06.94; River Durben was third in 16:58.98; Nolan Jacoby finished fourth in 17:00.28; Asher Todd finished sixth in 17:10.5; Canyon James placed seventh in 17:13.41 and Kellen Todd finished 10th in 17:38.72.

Lynden Christian’s Nickolas Luce won the individual title in 15:53.89, Larson Rische finished fifth in 17:01.98 and Colby Honcoop was 11th in 17:50.72. 

Mount Baker’s Cameron Scott ended up eighth in 18:08.93, Palmer Detta placed ninth in 17:31.44, Wyatt Freeman was 13th in 18:08.03 and Henry Contreras Mor finished 14th in 18:15.54.


2A Girls

Sehome girls won with 25 points while Anacortes finished second with 56 points. Sehome had five runners place in the top 10.

Lil Desler won in 18:9.88; Sloane Clines finished third in 18:34; Sydney Harri placed fifth in 18:49.04; Samantha Knipp was seventh in 19:03.82 and Kjirsten Ludeman finished ninth in 19:09.02.

Anacortes’ Cate Griggs finished sixth in 18:59.97 and Ashley Becerra Guzman was eighth in 19:05.84.

Lynden’s Sloan Dickson and Lucy Penner qualified for state. Dickson finished second in 18:32.43 and Penner was 24th in 20:39.99.

Bellingham’s Zaya Smith placed fourth in 18:36.58; Nora Seltz was 12th in 19:21.93; Nora Alexander finished 13th 19:23.81; Elise Holland placed 19th in 19:59.27; Leah Wagner came in 22nd in 20:21.70; Ella Dowling was 25th in 20:49.96 and Sonia Klise finished 28th in 21:25.77

Squalicum’s Sandra Voigt finished 10th in 19:10.5, Audrey Blue was 20th in 20:00.66 and Heidi Knudsen finished 26th in 21:04.01.

2A Boys

Sehome boys won with 27 points while Bellingham finished second with 61 points. The Mariners had six runners place in the top 10.

Sehome’s Nick Gargano placed second in 15:38.76; Skyler Gillham was third in 15:48.32; Sabastien Vahid came in sixth in 16:00.1; Judson Berreth finished seventh in 16:02.97; Jackson Rogers ended up ninth in 16:08.21 and Heath Terry finished 10th in 16:16.09.

Bellingham’s Baynes Machinski finished fourth in 15:53.09 and Berkley Pass placed fifth in 15:59.12.

Anacortes’ Dylan Rowell won in 15:26.81, Aiden Miller finished eighth in 16:06.64, Maverick Ball was 11th in 16:21.01 and Logan Horr ended up 18th in 16:45.86.

Squalicum’s Jonathan Piper finished 13th in 16:25.76; Taylor Rush placed 14th in 16:25.77; Lucca Burley was 17th in 16:33.71; Ty Hoffman finished 20th in 16:47.14; Joseph Salomon came in 24th in 16:54.01 and Kellen Savage was 27th in 17:12.84.

3A Girls and Boys

Ferndale girls did not qualify as a team, placing 14th with 325 points. However, Katie Manly will represent the Golden Eagles at state after placing fifth overall in 19:43.79.

The Ferndale boys will not head to state after placing 15th with 418 points.
