Strong winds cause power outages across Whatcom County on Monday morning

High wind warning in effect until 2 p.m. Monday

By Julia Tellman Local News Reporter

Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph have caused disruptions to power service for hundreds of Puget Sound Energy customers on Monday morning, Nov. 4 in Whatcom County.

The PSE outage map showed issues in areas including Everson, Goshen, Welcome, Custer, Marietta, Birch Bay and Semiahmoo. Utility crews are assessing and repairing damage in various locations.

A high wind warning issued on Sunday from the National Weather Service advised that gusts could cause “widespread power outages and road closures due to downed trees and power lines.” Remaining foliage on trees could result in higher than usual impacts for winds of this magnitude.

NWS advises that folks avoid downed power lines, stay clear of trees, keep a safe distance while driving, charge phones and keep flashlights handy.

The warning is in place until 2 p.m. on Monday.
