Football forecast: Lynden Christian hosts Cascade Christian in state opener

Five local teams will be playing their state openers

WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Cascade Christian vs. Lynden Christian at Blaine High School

When: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16

Cascade Christian record: 7-3

Lynden Christian record: 6-4

Final prediction: Lynden Christian 35-28

Lynden Christian was given the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Cascade Christian. The Lyncs’ record is deceiving as they had a very tough regular season schedule, which included Class 2A North Kitsap, Vancouver College and No. 5 Nooksack Valley.

The Lyncs will look to utilize their aerial attack to secure the victory and start a road campaign toward a title. 

Cascade Christian player to watch: QB Grant Johnson, senior

Johnson has over 2,200 passing yards and 18 touchdowns this season. He has led his squad to 113 total points the last three games and has three receivers averaging over 70 yards per game. Johnson will look to utilize several weapons against the Lyncs’ defense.

Lynden Christian player to watch: QB Eli Maberry, junior

Maberry is one of the top quarterbacks in Whatcom County. The junior has thrown for over 1,800 yards to several wide receivers and running backs on the Lyncs roster. Maberry’s top target is Boyce Robertson, who has over 800 receiving yards this season.
