JESSE’S PICKS

Naomi Moon Siegel
6:30–8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, FireHouse Arts and Events Center, 1314 Harris Ave.

Naomi Moon Siegel is a jazz trombonist and composer. After many years as one of the leading lights of Seattle’s jazz scene, she has relocated to Montana, which may mean she won’t be coming to town as often. Her style is a mixture of bop, fusion and avant-garde, with some world music influences in there too. She’s at the FireHouse on Wednesday, Nov. 20 with her sextet. It’s a group that includes guitarist Andy Coe and pianist Marina Albero, both well-known bandleaders in their own right. Her new album, “Shatter The Glass Sanctuary,” will be out by then.

An Intimate Evening with Bettye Lavette
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

Bettye Lavette is a soul music veteran with over 60 years in show business. After a long career marked by all sorts of record company ups and downs, she’s put out some great albums over the last few years and even been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Her repertoire incorporates soul, blues and a surprising amount of classic rock. For a fun Bellingham connection: Those are her vocals sampled on ODESZA’s “The Last Goodbye.” She’s performing at the Mount Baker Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 21 in a stripped-down show accompanied only by a piano player.

The Best ’80s Prom (So Far) featuring Nite Wave
9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St.

One of Seattle’s elite cover bands, Nite Wave, is typically in Bellingham once or twice a year. Always bringing a different theme, they draw from their massive repertoire of ‘80s pop covers to make each show distinctive. On Friday, Nov. 22 at the Wild Buffalo, the theme is “‘80s prom,” so feel free to dress up for the occasion. (Skinny ties? Asymmetric haircuts?) And yes, there will be a keytar.

Dryland 10th Anniversary Party with Filth Is Eternal, Mount Saturn, Melancholia
8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.

Local doom metal favorites Dryland are celebrating 10 years as a band with a handpicked lineup for their anniversary show on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Shakedown. Filth Is Eternal, Mount Saturn and Melancholia will all be joining them for what should be an epic metal gathering. I’ve got their release from last year, “Weekend In the Swamp,” on the turntable as I write this — and man does it sound good.
