Meridian High School placed on temporary lockdown due to threat

The lockdown was lifted after 20 minutes Thursday morning

Meridian High School was temporarily on lockdown Thursday morning after a 911 call indicated an active shooter threat. 

Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the school around 8:02 a.m. and asked the school to go into lockdown as they cleared the building, according to a news release from Meridian School District. Deputies were unable to find evidence of a threat. 

The lockdown was lifted at 8:24 a.m., according to the release. 

Meridian Middle School and Irene Reither Elementary School were placed into secure mode, according to the release. Meridian Parent Partnership Program (MP3) and the Meridian District Office also entered into lockdown. 

WSCO was able to identify that the 911 call was placed from the Seattle area. 

Recently, a Canadian teenager was arrested in connection to a hoax bomb threat at Ferndale High School. The teen was connected to a string of hoax calls across 12 states.
