Shower trailer behind City Hall will close Oct. 27

Hygiene services available at The Way Station starting end of the month

An interim shower program behind Bellingham City Hall will end on Sunday, Oct. 27.

Since November 2023, the Opportunity Council’s Homeless Outreach Team has operated a shower trailer with three stalls from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 210 Lottie St. in Bellingham.

People in need of showers will instead be able to access them 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Way Station at 1500 N. State St., in a new health and hygiene center operated by Unity Care NW. Staff said they hope to be operating by the end of October. The center has four showers. People can also access health, medical and laundry services at the center.

The City of Bellingham purchased the trailer using American Rescue Plan funds, and the city and county shared the staffing and operational costs. The trailer will be repurposed for future use at a tiny home village.
