Prep Spotlight: Meridian’s Jaeger Fyfe

Fyfe plays a pivotal role in Meridian's football and basketball success

By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

Meridian’s Jaeger Fyfe is a jack of all trades on the football field and basketball court. Since the Trojans only have 38 players listed on their varsity football roster, including 17 underclassmen, Fyfe plays several roles.

“You have to be super in shape because we are playing offense, defense and special teams,” Fyfe said. “We have to make sure we are all running hard so we have super good lungs.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound senior is the starting quarterback, cornerback and punt returner in football and the starting point guard and backup shooting guard in basketball.

Fyfe has been able to play all the positions without wearing out because of yoga classes paired with two-a-day football workouts. Fyfe has been balancing a hectic schedule since he began playing flag football, AAU basketball and baseball when he was younger.

“It’s all I have done growing up,” Fyfe said. “I would have a basketball game in the morning and baseball game in the afternoon. It is who I am.”

When Fyfe takes the field or court, he becomes a leader for the Trojans. He said he tries to boost his teammates when they are down and make sure they play their best. This season, he has led the Trojans to a 5-1 record with 1,073 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, five rushing touchdowns and an interception on defense.

“My versatility makes me stand out,” Fyfe said “I can be out on defense, I can snag a ball with one hand, I can use my arm strength and speed on offense, and use my IQ and read the coverages.”

As a junior, Fyfe finished the basketball season with an average of 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. The Trojans finished 14-12 overall.

When Fyfe is not competing, he loves to spend time with friends and provide laughter with his goofiness. Once his high school career ends, he will look to play football or basketball in college. Until then, Fyfe believes he and his senior class “want to win more than ever this year. Everyone comes to practice and wants to get better.”
