Lynden and Sehome girls soccer were evenly matched in a 3-3 tie Tuesday, Oct. 15 during a Northwest Conference tilt at Bender Fields in Lynden.
After the tie, the Lions (11-0-1) hold the top spot in the league standings with three regular-season games remaining, while Sehome (9-1-2) has a half-game lead on Bellingham for second place.
Sehome looked to make a push for the league lead by making a statement early in the game. Mariners’ Vivian Moss crossed the ball to Kylie Ivcevic for the first shot on goal in the 4th minute.

The Mariners kept the ball in the attacking third of the field until they scored in the 17th minute when Triya Mitchell crossed a corner kick to Keira Reeves for a header. It was the first time this season Lynden has trailed in a game.
Both offenses took over the game for the next five minutes as Lynden’s Evelyn Saldivar assisted Meg Clarke for the equalizer in the 20th minute and Morgyn Heutink scored from a rebound on Saldivar’s shot for a 2-1 Lynden lead.
Sehome tied the match in the 27th minute when Amaia Reid marched down the right sideline and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net to make it 2-2.
Both teams had a few more attempts but failed to score until the second half. In the second half, Lynden took the lead again. Saldivar snuck past a few defenders and scored on a breakaway in the 53rd minute.
Nearly 10 minutes later, a Sehome player was fouled near midfield. As all the players filled the Lynden 18-yard box, Ivcevic fired a ball from midfield onto the net. Ella Perry ran past the defenders and volleyed the ball into the goal for the 3-3 tie.
Sehome had the final opportunity in the 72nd minute when Mitchell took another free kick, but Lynden’s Allyson Bartlett saved the shot to end the match with a draw.
Lynden will continue its tough end-of-season schedule with a road game at Ferndale at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. Sehome will host Blaine on the same day and time.
