JESSE’S PICKS

Grand Funk Railroad
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

I tend to be pretty skeptical of the zombie versions of classic rock bands that are out there soldiering on indefinitely on the state fair and casino circuit, sometimes with only the most tenuous connection to their namesakes. But I have to admit, the version of Grand Funk Railroad that is coming to our town to party it down at Mount Baker Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 7 looks pretty legit, with two out of three original members and a mostly stable lineup for the last 25 years.

Cuarto Sueño
8–10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, Honey Moon, 1053 N. State St.

Trio Sueño have been around for a while and feature guitarist BJ Block, bassist Tom Anastasio and percussionist Steve Jones playing an ear-pleasing mix of jazz and flamenco. Recently they’ve been collaborating with guitar virtuoso Jacob Seyer to form Cuarto Sueño, and that’s the lineup that will be at Honey Moon on Friday, Nov. 8.

Massachusetts-based singer/songwriter Jeffrey Foucault will play New Prospect Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 10. (Photo courtesy of Joe Navas)
Analog Brass
6–8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, Greene’s Corner, 2208 James St.

Analog Brass are our local take on the contemporary brass band sound, with elements of funk, hip-hop and pop mixed in with some heavy-duty political sensibilities. Their first album was “Songs from the Protest Route,” but rumor has it they’ve got a new one on the way. They’ll be brassing it up on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Greene’s Corner.

Jeffrey Foucalt
7:30–9:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, New Prospect Theatre, 207 Prospect St.

Jeffrey Foucault is a singer-songwriter based in Massachusetts who has been almost perpetually on the road over the course of two decades in the music industry. His music is rooted in folk with plenty of blues, rock and country influences tossed in. He’s touring behind a beautiful new album, “The Universal Fire,” that features members of Calexico and Bon Iver, and he’s coming to the New Prospect Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 10, joined by Erik Koskinen on guitar. This venue is one of the nicest places in town to see the sort of performer where you want to pay attention to the lyrics.
