Milano’s, Fairhaven Village Tacos close

Two Fairhaven neighborhood restaurants connected by ownership and a half block of 11th Street have apparently served their final dishes. Fairhaven Village Tacos, housed in a red double-decker bus at 1020 Harris Ave., posted on social media that its final day was Sunday, Aug. 25. And in a series of emails to customers, Milano’s Italian seafood restaurant at 1210 11th St. said it was closing after Friday, Aug. 23. Owner Nancy Hassan confirmed by email that both Bellingham restaurants would close. Milano’s was founded in Glacier in 1990 and moved to Fairhaven in 2019, according to the restaurant website; Fairhaven Village Tacos opened in 2021.

De Todo Mijo renovates

Sunnyland neighborhood shop De Todo Mijo is temporarily closed, according to the Colombian market’s Instagram feed and a half-dozen signs on its doors and windows. The signs at the 784 Kentucky St. storefront in Bellingham promise, “Big things are coming! Closed for renovations. Updates will be posted on social media.” An Instagram post on Aug. 10 said the store “will be closed for a while” and gave no reopening date. De Todo Mijo opened earlier this year and said in July that it had plans to expand this fall and add a barbershop.

Superfeet named a Best Workplace

Ferndale-based Superfeet has been recognized by Inc. as one of the business publication’s Best Workplaces of 2024. The maker of performance footwear insoles was one of 12 Washington state companies to be honored in the national competition. Superfeet said, in announcing its selection, that employee surveys required for evaluation found 98% of its workers reported they can depend on their teammates and 96% believe the company is positioned for success. Private companies nominate themselves for consideration and have to go through what Inc. calls a “rigorous” selection process to make the “annual roster of companies that set the standard in workplace culture.”

Regional job fair set

The fall 2024 NW Regional Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in Mount Vernon, according to co-sponsors WorkSource and the Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County (EDASC). More than 30 businesses are expected, including Janicki Industries, PACCAR, Silfab Solar, WECU and Evergreen Goodwill. EDASC said businesses taking part are asked to have at least three current job openings and be located in Skagit, Island, Whatcom or San Juan counties. The organization expects to still have a few spots available for employers through early September. The event is free for job seekers and runs from 3–5:30 p.m. in the Northwest Career & Technical Academy at 2205 W. Campus Place in Mount Vernon.

Twin Sisters Brewing drops price

Twin Sisters Brewing Company, which went on the market in 2023 for $3.7 million, has become more affordable for the entrepreneur who wants to own a piece of Bellingham’s craft beer scene. An updated listing on the BizBuySell website touts a new price of $3.3 million, down $400,000 from the ask first posted a year ago. The listing said the price still includes the beer brand, brewery, full-service restaurant, tap room, regional distribution and “nearly an acre of prime real estate” at 500 Carolina St. in Bellingham’s Sunnyland neighborhood. The reason for selling the brewery, which is open and operating, remains stated as “retirement.”
