The Mount Vernon Police Department has made two arrests in connection to the murder of an 18-year-old man who was killed in mid-March.
The two individuals, a 17-year-old youth and a 21-year-old man, were arrested in Oak Harbor on Wednesday, April 2, by law enforcement, said Lt. Dave Shackleton, a public information officer for MVPD.
On March 17, Mount Vernon police were dispatched to report of multiple gunshots in the 2200 block of East College Way. When law enforcement arrived, they found the victim, Alan Mora Gomez, with a gunshot wound.
Mora Gomez was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The suspects fled prior to law enforcement’s arrival, Shackleton said.
During the course of the investigation, law enforcement was able to identify the suspect’s vehicle and it was found in Everett, Shackleton said. Other evidence was found to establish arrest warrants for the two suspects.
The 17-year-old was booked into Skagit County juvenile detention and the 21-year-old was booked into the Skagit County Jail, both on charges related to second-degree murder.
A Skagit County Superior Court judge set the 21-year-old’s bail at $1 million on Thursday. He’s set to be arraigned on April 10.
Shackleton said police are still continuing to investigate the murder and are requesting people with information either call the 24-hour dispatch line at 360-428-3211 or MVPD at 360-336-6271.
