By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Sehome at Squalicum

When: 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5

Sehome record: 7-11

Squalicum record: 10-7

Final prediction: Squalicum, 45-36

Sehome lost nine out of 10 games from Dec. 20, 2024 to Jan. 23 of this year, and sat near the bottom of the Northwest Conference standings. The Mariners then squeaked out two close victories against Sedro-Woolley and Bellingham last week to turn their momentum around before the season ends. Sehome still has the third-lowest scoring offense in the league (38.1 points per game). But the Mariners did begin the season with a 44-39 victory against the Storm and look to sweep the season series.

Squalicum is fighting for home-court advantage in the district playoffs as it sits fifth in the conference standings. The Storm’s offense continues to improve weekly with the playoffs coming up. In 2024, Squalicum scored 50 or more points in just one of eight games. Since then, the Storm have scored 50 or more points in five out of nine games.

Sehome player to watch: Freshman guard Taylor Turrell

Turrell, the floor general, has been the Mariners’ leading scorer in several games. When Sehome faced Mount Vernon Jan. 23, she finished with a team-high 19 points while adding seven steals and five assists.

Squalicum player to watch: Sophomore guard Lexi Robbins

Robbins continues to develop as a solid point guard for the Storm this season. As of Jan. 27, Robbins is one of the leaders in assists per game (5.5) in the conference. She also led the Storm offensively when they faced Bellingham, scoring 17 points and tallying seven assists.
