Most school districts in Whatcom County will operate on a two-hour delay due to icy conditions.
Lynden, Meridian, Blaine and Nooksack Valley are all operating on a delay. Nooksack Valley will operate normal bus routes, except for students on Minaker, Deeter and North Pass.
Ferndale School District will be closed today, the district announced at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Lummi Nation School and Early Learning will also be closed.
Bellingham Public Schools is operating on time, with snow bus routes in effect. Mount Baker School District will also be operating on the district’s normal Wednesday schedule, which already includes a 90-minute late arrival schedule. Buses will follow snow routes, with no morning preschool.
Several prep sports games have been canceled, including a Bellingham vs. Blaine girls basketball game, Blaine at Mount Vernon boys and girls basketball, and a Lynden Christian girls basketball game against Lakewood.
Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College are operating on a normal schedule.
A cold weather advisory remains in effect for the area until 10 a.m. today. Forecasts show a chance of snow showers at Bellingham International Airport today and Thursday.
Several bus routes are detoured today, including Route 50 (detouring on Ferndale Road) and Route 72X (missing stops on Deming Road and Santa Fe Trail), according to a Whatcom Transportation Authority Facebook post. A paratransit bus with chains will serve Kendall neighborhoods. There is no zone or flex service running today.
