Anacortes boys lead local swimmers at state meet

Seahawks finish fifth out of 28 teams at the 1A/2A meet

Anacortes boys placed fifth at the 2A state swim and dive meet to lead local competitors Feb. 20–22 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Anacortes

The Seahawks placed fifth as a team in the 1A/2A meet with 140 points, led by Matthew Lucas winning the 50-yard backstroke in 36.55 seconds and finishing second in the 50-yard adaptive freestyle in 31.08. 

William Peterson came in 10th in the 1-meter diving competition with 203.15 points.

In the 200-medley relay, Nate Smelley, Caleb Kidd, Jellybean Hunter and Calum Hambleton placed 23rd in 1:58.62. Caleb O’Donnell followed with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.52, while Finn McFarland came in sixth.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Noah McFarland was 15th in 58.90 seconds. O’Donnell returned to the pool and finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.37. Finn McFarland was third in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.91.

O’Donnell, Thomas Knowles, Finn McFarland and Noah McFarland were fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They also finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:29.09.

Bellingham

The Bayhawks placed 20th as a team in the 1A/2A meet with 37 points.

Myles Ludwig came in third 1-meter diving event with 233.20 points.

Marley Lotts, Parker Kiniry, Micah Flint and Oli Ochs finished 16th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.52. Kiniry also placed 12th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.16.


Flint was 21st in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.24 seconds. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Kiniry, Flint, Tony Seholm and Cameron Pomerinke placed 13th in 1:39.14. 

Flint, Lotts, Jorgensen and Kiniry finished 14th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:42.83.

Mount Vernon 

In the 200-yard medley relay, Micah McNeil, Alexander Lisitskiy, Conor Gustafson and Eduardo Garduno Arvizu placed 20th in 1:49.23. Gustafson also placed 21st in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.64. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the same relay squad placed 18th in 1:33.57. 

Sehome

The Mariners finished 14th as a team in the 1A/2A meet with 54 points.

Kaden Schmidt kicked off the three-day event by claiming a gold medal in the 1-meter diving event. He scored 280.75 points. 

Kai Arthur, Koen Mathey, Owen Reid and Jack Wrightson finished 15th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.67. Jackson Rogers placed 21st in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.57. 

Liam Daheim was 18th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:20.11, Arthur was 14th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.68, and Mathey was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.30. Daheim also placed 15th in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.70. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Wrightson, Daheim, Rogers and Arthur placed 14th in 1:39.25. Arthur followed it up with a 21st-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.84. 

Mathey was 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.23. Mathey, Wrightson, Daheim and Rogers placed 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:40.41.

Kai Borton was sixth in both the 50-yard adaptive freestyle (1:08.38) and the 50-yard backstroke (1:27.31).  

Squalicum

The Storm finished 10th as a team in the 1A/2A meet with 74 points.

Nolan Witman and Alex Witman battled in the diving competition on the first day. Nolan finished sixth with 213.85 points and Alex finished 13th with 191.20. 

Hayden Nelson, Finn Smith, Thomas Knudsen and Mac Hofsstedt placed 11th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.50. Smith also finished 22nd in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.53 seconds. 

Michael Ciatti was 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly after finishing in 1:00.80. Nelson was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.15) and 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (51.78).

Ciatti, Hofstedt, Gus Mayer and Knudsen finished 21st in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.15. Smith was 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.50. 

Hofstedt, Nelson, Coati and Smith came in seventh in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:33.06.
