Skagit Habitat for Humanity received $1.1 million from the state to construct 11 affordable homes in La Conner and Anacortes.

The funds from the Department of Commerce’s Washington State Housing Trust will go towards the non-profit’s three-home Caledonia Street project in La Conner, and its eight-home project off 29th Street in Anacortes, Parkside Cottages.

The Anacortes project is currently under construction, and is anticipated to be complete by August 1, CEO Tina Tate said. The La Conner project’s construction is set to begin in February, with completion by the end of the year.

The projects are part of the Habitat Homebuyer Program, which allows families or individuals making between 70% to 80% of Area Median Income to help build and buy their own home.

In total, the awards announced by the Department of Commerce on Thursday, Jan. 23 will invest $17.95 million in 17 projects to create affordable homeownership opportunities for 168 low-income households.
