Western junior Bec Bennett and the Viking women’s distance medley relay — which included Bennett — each came away with First Team All-America honors after placing top 8 at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships March 13–15 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

Western men’s and women’s track and field sent six competitors to the championships but did not earn any team points, tying for 52nd place in the team standings.

Bennett was named an All-American after placing seventh in the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of 54.03, breaking her own mark of 54.32 set Thursday, March 13.

Bennett also competed in the distance medley relay with Sophie Wright, Emmy Kroontje and Ila Davis that placed seventh in 11:30.44.

Kevin McDermott finished 10th in the men’s 3000-meter run with a time of 8:02.95, and Kora Cook tied for 14th in the women’s high jump by leaping 1.67 meters.
