Prep baseball preview: Ferndale’s Fenton Vasak

Vasak was an all-conference selection last season for the Golden Eagles

Fenton Vasak will compete for Ferndale’s baseball team this spring as an outfielder and part of the pitching rotation. The right-handed junior began playing baseball at 6 years old.

“I love playing the game,” Vasak said. “I like all the different aspects, like throwing and hitting and getting out in the sun. It was also a sport my parents liked.”

Last season, Ferndale finished 10-10 overall and 7-8 in the Northwest Conference. Although several teams will bring back talented rosters, Vasak is confident the Golden Eagles will have a more successful season this year.

“I am looking forward to seeing our pitching staff,” Vasak said. “Hopefully we have a solid rotation, and I think we will do better than last year. We got awesome new arms and faces so it will be fun to see.”

Vasak, who was an all-conference selection last season, is now stepping into a larger role for the Golden Eagles. He hopes to help the younger Ferndale players grow while supporting this senior class.

“Failure is everywhere in baseball,” Vasak said. “You learn how to deal with failure, not let it affect you as much and to move forward. I try to be a good example and hope they learn to respect the game and work hard in it.”

Vasak is looking to improve from last season in all categories of the sport.

“I had a solid season but I am trying to build off it and do better,” Vasak said.
