Jesse Stanton's weekly picks and other live shows in Whatcom County

JESSE’S PICKS

Bit Brigade

8 p.m. Monday, March 24
The Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St.

Bit Brigade takes classic 8-bit video game soundtracks and arranges them to be played by a rock band. Then they have an expert gamer come on stage and try to speedrun the games while the band plays. It’s silly and weird and by all accounts a very good time, especially if you know and love the material. It’s also a bit unpredictable, because the band has to react to whatever is happening on screen, which means that the gamer really is a member of the band. On Monday, March 24, at the Wild Buffalo, they’re going to tackle “Super Mario World” and “F-Zero”.

Kris Delmhorst

7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27
New Prospect Theatre, 207 Prospect St.

New England-based singer/songwriter Kris Delmhorst has been making the New Prospect Theatre a regular stop on her national tours. Thursday, March 27 will mark the third time she’s played there in the last few years. Clearly she’s built up a fanbase in the area with her beautiful original material, and she knows she can count on our audiences to show up. It’s also a perfect venue for her music.

Sunflecks with Marlo Mudd

8–10 p.m. Saturday, March 29
Honey Moon Mead and Cider, 1053 N. State St.

Sunflecks began as just singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Forrest Meyer but have since expanded to be a six-piece country/folk ensemble with keys and pedal steel. I caught their show at the Shakedown in January and they’ve got a real nice sound. They’ve recorded a debut album, “fools errand,” and will be releasing it with a show at the Honey Moon on Saturday, March 29. Marlo Mudd opens, then Sunflecks play the whole album.

Metalachi

9 p.m. Sunday, March 30
Bar Two Eleven, 211 E. Chestnut St.

Metalachi take heavy metal and hard rock classics (think “Crazy Train,” “Thunderstruck,” “Master of Puppets,” that sort of thing) and adapt them for a mariachi band, shredding on trumpets and violins. It sounds kind of gimmicky but they pull it off with pure energy and a deep love of both styles. They’ve even been known to tackle “Bohemian Rhapsody.” They’ll be at Bar Two Eleven on Sunday, March 30.
