NICK’S PICKS

Boys soccer: Mount Vernon at Squalicum

1 p.m. Friday, March 28
Squalicum High

Last season, Mount Vernon finished second in the Northwest Conference with a 13-4-3 record, while Squalicum was third with a 14-6-0 record. With both teams returning most of their rosters after deep runs in the postseason, it will be a great litmus test. Squalicum will be led by all-conference midfielder Isaac Grimes while Mount Vernon will have staunch defender Eli Natekin.

Track and field: Bedlington Invitation

3:30 p.m. Friday, March 28
Lynden Christian High

Lynden Christian’s track and field team will host nine other Northwest Conference teams in an early season meet. Several top competitors in the 1A, 2A and 3A will compete alongside each other for an early test. Last season, Meridian boys and Lynden girls won the meet.

Wilderness First Responder

8:30 a.m. Monday, March 24
Larrabee State Park

From March 24–28, people can register for Wilderness First Responder where they can learn and practice the skills and knowledge needed to handle a range of medical and traumatic emergencies in a wilderness environment. The event will last from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. as participants learn how to treat life threats, stabilize injuries and evaluate hardships while hiking through Larrabee State Park.
