Disaster recovery center to open in the Lummi Nation

Flood victims can meet locally with recovery specialists

By Kai Uyehara News Intern

A new disaster recovery center will open at the Lummi Nation Administration Center from Feb. 8 through 12. At this new location, community members affected by the November 2021 floods can get help applying for recovery assistance.

The center is operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, and the state’s Emergency Management Division.

Flood victims will be able to meet with recovery specialists from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Washington state agencies. These specialists can help residents apply for federal assistance and discuss other available resources for homeowners, renters and business owners. Specialists can also answer further questions for those who have already registered for assistance and want to meet in person.

Financial assistance from FEMA may provide flood victims with money for temporary housing, basic home repairs, childcare, and transportation as well as medical, funeral or dental expenses.

Those needing assistance will be required to make an appointment by calling 360-312-2123.

Appointments are available for these dates:

  • Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The center is available to residents from Clallam, Skagit and Whatcom counties, the Lummi Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, the Quileute Tribe as well as other tribes in the designated area. Flood victims from other areas can look online to find other local Disaster Recovery Centers.
