Ferndale Middle School reports suspicious device found

Device determined to be non-threatening

The administration at Vista Middle School discovered a suspicious device Monday morning and reported it to Ferndale Police Department.

Staff and students were removed from the area to a safe distance away, according to a message from Superintendent Mark Deebach and Ferndale Police Chief Kevin Turner.

Law enforcement, including the Hazardous Device Unit from Bellingham Police Department, disassembled the device and found it to be non-threatening.

“The Ferndale School District is grateful for the quick response by Ferndale Police Department as we worked diligently and collaboratively to ensure threats are fully investigated and resolved,” the message read.
