Finley Parcher scored a game-high 23 points and Lynden girls basketball continued its early-season onslaught with a 75-38 victory over Ferndale at home Friday, Dec. 20.
“We had a grind where we played 10 games in three weeks,” Lynden coach Rob Adams said. “I was really happy with their energy tonight. They could’ve hung their heads and said a hundred different excuses, but they came after it tonight and I am proud of them.”
The Lions had nine separate girls score on the night, 11 of them grabbed a rebound and 10 of them dished out an assist.
“We preach about our standards,” Adams said. “A great illustration of that tonight was Emily Dykstra, our 6-foot-4 freshman who has never played varsity before, dives face first for the ball. It is a credit to her watching the girls ahead of her and staying up to the standard.”
Lynden’s Finley Parcher led the Lions with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block. Teammate Payton Mills had 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
“We are always practicing with each other, and have that connection where we know where each other are during the game,” Parcher said.
Mills dominated in the first few minutes to give the Lions a 16-5 lead. Parcher nailed a 3-pointer to end the first quarter with a 30-10 Lynden lead. Ferndale’s Abbey White and Jilly Fox had five points each.
In the second quarter, Lynden expanded its lead to nearly 25 points until Ferndale’s Kenzie Dawson made a floater. Lynden’s Kiki York scored six points and Izzie Stephan added five points to make it 49-17 at halftime.
Ferndale began the third quarter with eight straight points, including a couple of baskets from White. However, Mills snapped Ferndale’s run with a layup and continued to extend Lynden’s lead. Lions’ Rian Stephan ended the third quarter with a euro-step layup to make it 65-30.
In the fourth quarter, Adams began to play some of his reserves.
“We are making improvements every game, but we have like five or six girls that haven’t separated and we are excited about that,” Adams said.
The Lions and Golden Eagles traded a few baskets until the final buzzer went off and the Lions secured the win.
Lynden (6-0) will host Class 3A Stanwood at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. Ferndale (2-3) hosts Lakewood at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.
