By Charlotte Alden General Assignment/Enterprise Reporter

Bellingham Public Schools Superintendent Greg Baker will remain in the district after he was not selected for the superintendent position at the Northwest Education Service District 189.

The service district serves 35 school districts, Lummi Nation K-12, and private schools in five northwest Washington counties, including Whatcom.

Baker sent a message to community members on Wednesday, Feb. 14 that he had been selected as a finalist for a position. He said he was not looking for jobs outside of the district but had been invited to apply.

“Staying in Bellingham is not a consolation prize — in fact, I remain energized and entirely engaged in the important work we are doing together,” Baker said in a message to community members on Friday, Feb. 16.
